House Bill 199, (under the guise of "protecting mental health"), actually infringes upon our religious freedom and prohibits those who want to pursue a faith-based approach to personal counseling.
The current District 20 Representative; Minter sponsored this bill which would have restricted family clergy or youth pastors from counseling youth, regarding gender identity issues they may be having, even if the youth sought the counsel on their own. This is a direct violation of their "Freedom of Speech" and their "Freedom of Religion."
"I support and acknowledge the important work family clergy and youth pastors do while serving their youth members, and that work cannot and should not be limited by government interference. I support the separation between church and state. As a former pastor, I have been on both sides of the spectrum in terms of counseling. Most know that the church was meant to be protected from the state and not the other way around.
With House Bill 296, my opponent wants to start the 2021-2022 school year with LGBTQ Sex Education. Another reason I am running for office is, I want to protect our educational and religious freedoms. As an Independent I see the extreme political views trying hard to turn our country into something it’s not meant to be: I also know the opposition argues that it will lower unwanted pregnancies and diseases yet don't mention that our schools already have sex education classes for our students.
What bill do we need now more than ever?
We need COVID relief bills, reducing civil liability for small business, bills that would discuss governor overreach and individual rights, and make sure our large Medicaid extended population can get funding. Next session we must do a one-year budget and that will be my number one priority." --Leanette Lopez
